Maybe he was going absolutely insane. Yes, that might’ve been it, agreeing to any of this. He hadn’t come to the game to do anything but show off his acrobatics and extend his client base, but he wasn’t doing that now. Oh no, right now, he was signing out papers at the city’s arena, his Renamon eagerly hopping from toe to toe beside him in anticipation. This wasn’t his idea, surely. His Renamon had pestered him and pestered him until he finally gave in and took her to Asuka City, where she’d heard there was an arena for organized battles.

“Are you sure about this?” He asked over his shoulder, his pen on the paper. The Renamon nodded silently, but the eagerness was obvious, so with a final sigh he put his signature down at the bottom and slipped the paper into the machine’s scanner. A few moments later, he was being let into an open area.

The ground was packed dirt with a few hints of grass, and the sky was open with the sun shining in. A neutral environment, he thought. His Renamon immediately began jumping from foot to foot again, head flicking back and forth to check out the environment. It was new to her; she’d never been in such a place before, but she wanted to be improving her skill. Battle, she’d heard, was one of those things that could do it.

“Calm down.” Terpsichore’s tone was rather hushed, watching the other door for their opponent. The person, whoever they may have been, had yet to arrive and he was actually finding himself a little eager to figure out who it was. He liked meeting people, but his competitive streak would definitely start showing. Finding a happy middle ground for both was proven difficult a long time ago.

Patience. He’d just have to wait.

It wasn't all fun and games for the man and his digimon either, they were both quite serious about becoming the best. Of course, if they wanted to do that then they would have to battle against others. No point in putting that off either, it didn't matter if they won or lost here, there was no easy path to victory.

"Only one lesson in victory and a thousand in defeat, eh?" he looked to the Agumon, who seemed unusually steady. Usually he would complain about these things, but here he was getting himself psyched up. The Dino lifted his head and nodded towards Maverick, showing that he acknowledged what was said and that he was ready.

Entering through the other doors, their opponent had already entered, so they were now staring across from each other. A nod towards his opponent, "Let's have a good battle, eh?" A grin, he was ready to go and he would have no hard feelings after this was done and over with. They didn't know what the digimon they were up against was, but it looked like it was a fighter itself.

"Remember, set your own pace, don't be pulled into your opponent's and make sure that your attacks count," he figured some last minute advice couldn't hurt. "I got it, I'll do my best, just watch me fight and keep your end of the deal," the Agumon glanced back to the man that was now giving him a thumbs up.

"Shall we get started then?" the Agumon spoke to his opponent, as he stepped into the area where they would fight.

There was the creak of the gates opening again, and Terpsichore looked up to find his opponent entering the arena. Oh, good, he didn’t have to wait long after all. Like he did with everything else, he immediately lit up with a smile, standing up straight. People! Oh, finally, he could interact with another person! Could they speak Spanish? Oh, by some miracle, could they speak English? He knew enough Japanese to get by, somewhat like a tourist, but not enough to be fluent in everything.

But of course, what came out of his mouth wasn’t Spanish or English, but the predicted Japanese. He could understand bits, and he kept smiling, despite the apparent language barrier. Still, he waved happily at the man across the arena. ”Hi there!” At least he knew that in Japanese, and he used it to his advantage. Normally, he didn’t need to speak anyway; he was a acrobat, all he needed to do was hand out business cards and smile and do neat tricks.

A quick nod, because all he really understood from that was ‘good battle’ and he supposed he wanted that. Well, his Renamon wanted that more than he did. She was bouncing back and forth, toe to toe, her arms raised in an almost boxer stance. Knowing her tamer didn’t speak much of their language, she decided that she’d take up talking… when she really wanted to. She wasn’t one for words, more than actions.

The Renamon made a sniffing sound, brushing her nose with her thumb, before resuming her stance. “Whenever you’re ready.” She said to the Agumon, waiting for his move.

It seemed that the person he was facing was on the quiet side, since he just seemed to be smiling in response. Well, that was fine, there wasn't a whole lot that could be said right now anyways. He would watch the fight with eagerness to see how Agumon would do, and if he needed help, would offer advice.

The Agumon nodded to his opponent, and began to look over the way they moved, trying to find a good option to attack with. He went over possible scenarios, before deciding to just see how things went and dashed forward. Swiping his claws towards the fox digimon, he would test the waters first, and see how things unfolded. The Agumon tried to remain as friendly and civil when not involved with serious battles. So, when the chance to prove his abilities came around, he was more than prepared to show everyone he wasn't weak.

Granted, in terms of speed, the Renamon but in power he should be able to keep up at least. Durability, would be in his favor likely, so this could go either way for him. Nothing to do but try, and he would give his all.

Huh, so he was ready a whole lot quicker than she thought. Then again, they were in an arena; everybody was more than ready here. She hadn’t even gotten into a serious battle before, as her tamer was an acrobat. She had gotten much more time to jump through hoops and balance on poles than to test her physical strength. However, all those acrobatics made her agile and quick. The Agumon seemed durable; the resilient sort. She’d need to be careful.

The Renamon saw the claws coming just as he started moving, and immediately she leapt high into the air, the claw swipe passing just underneath her feet. She showed off her speed and agility right off the bat, twirling in the air before coming back down feet first, aiming right for the Agumon’s head.

She was hoping he was much slower than herself, and she’d be able to land on his head and do a sort of bounce. It may work double to disorient him so she could get a quick swipe in. Sneak attacks, she figured, would be her forte according to her strengths. She doubted her tamer would be much help when it came to such things, anyway.

It seemed that the digimon was quite fast and agile, he was going to need to try working more on counters and timing here. When she came dropping down at him, he lifted one of his arms to block the attack. He then swung with his free claw, trying to time it when the fox digimon would hit.

He wasn't going to keep being able to do that either though, but he moved backwards a bit. He wanted some extra distance between him and his opponent. If he could watch her movements he might be able to start reading into them a bit better.

So, he waited, making a motion that it was her turn to come at him this time. Maverick was watching with an excited expression, though he likely would have enjoyed trying to fight himself. Still, it was exciting seeing the Agumon fight so well, he expected him to be doing a lot worse. Though, maybe that was just the first impression from the day they first met. Thinking back on it now, he probably should have been fairer, so he had an idea for after the match as to how to make it up.

Terpsichore didn’t know what to expect when walking into a battle like this, but he was curious and he definitely wanted to learn, even if it wasn’t why he came to the game in the first place. He watched in fascination as his Renamon leapt high into the air, and he swore she could’ve hit the roof if she wanted, before flipping and coming down feet first to leap off the little dragon-dinosaur-thing’s head. What was it called? He’d need to take another look.

The Renamon bounced off his claws, landing a few metres back once more and watching as the Agumon scuttled back to distance them. Silent so far, minus the occasional sound of impact…When he coaxed her forward though, she happily complied. Battling wasn’t her thing either; her tamer was a performer and an acrobat, and that was entirely different. She supposed she could apply the moves, all the same… without props.

She flung herself at the Agumon a second time, dashing at him head first before letting her feet drop out in front of her at the last minute. She was hoping to take his legs out, if possible. The creature looked top-heavy with such a big head, so she supposed his center of gravity was lower.

It seemed that she was well enough to make a charge at him as well, he would have to study her movements closely. His eyes watching as she ran forward, catching as much of the muscle movements as possible. It was for this purpose that he would need to take a bit of damage as well. He would need to use his sturdiness to his advantage.

When she kicked out as his legs, he made sure to take the attack, as it knocked him off-balance. He landed on his head, facing towards the Renamon, but he wasn't so easy to take out of the fight. While upside down, he carefully aimed his shot, opening his mouth, "Baby Flame!" A powerful fireball, flew from his maw, aimed at the fox's leg, if it could weaken it enough to slow the opponent down, it could turn the battle.

Of course, landing on his head, wasn't without affect, as he stumbled slowly to get back up. His body not only oddly proportioned, but also somewhat wobbly from the hit. He'd have to be careful, even headbutts with the floor hurt a great deal.

The Renamon grunted under her breath as her attack hit home, sending the Agumon over her and onto his head. She was still on the ground though, and she struggled to stagger or scramble back onto her feet in time to dodge any oncoming attacks. The orange dragon creature may not have been quick, but she had a feeling that his heftiness leant him strength… Strength that she was likely not to match, where she outdid him in speed and agility.

She turned hard on her heels, just in time to spot the flames come shooting at her leg. She attempted another leap into the air, but the embers that came singed the hairs on her calf and foot, causing her to leap backwards instead of straight up with a startled yelp.

The Renamon patted at her singed hair until she was sure the flames were out, but doubled her efforts right back on the upside down dragon. Better to make her next attack a quick strike, so she could withdraw and then go again. Rapid fire punches sounded likely, and so she focused power on her paw until it glowed blue. “Wisteria Punch!” She rushed the Agumon, drawing her first back.

Pyre was actually starting to have a bit more fun than he thought he would with this. Just the competing against another digimon was spurring something inside him, he wanted to win. Was this what Maverick felt at times, when he fought and when he was in those different situations? That urge to claim the top spot for himself, even after a long and arduous battle.

He'd managed to catch the Renamon enough on the leg, maybe it would slow her down a bit. However, sitting around like this wasn't good, swinging his body, he flipped over back on to his feet. Turning to see the Renamon throw out her fist at him, and hitting him squarely in the chest. Well, if this was going to get close range, he was going to have to take this up a bit.

"Battle Hawk!" with that phrase, a battle axe appeared in the Agumon's hands as he prepared to really get into the swing of things. With the battle axe in hand, he took a horizontal swing at the Renamon, keeping the axe as close to himself as he could. As he would use it as offense and defense, so as to try and last a bit longer.

…there was suddenly an axe. A small, orange dragon-dinosaur wielding an axe. If Terpsichore thought he’d seen everything before, evidently he’d yet to see anything at all. He tilted his head at the curious appearance, even if the thing was charging at his Renamon full force, swinging it in arcs at her while keeping it relatively close to him.

The Renamon shied from the axe, but ended up nearly getting her ears and tail chopped off in the process. She winced away from the sudden contact with a yelp, otherwise soundless, and leapt into the air again with some effort. Her leg was still singed and she swore that axe was illegal in battle. Well, probably not, but still.

“Fox Leaf Arrowhead!” Spreading her paws, leaves materialized in the air and went flying towards the Agumon.

The axe was decent as a defensive tool, allowing the Agumon to defend himself much better. Especially with his controlled swings, it meant the axe wouldn't fly to far with the momentum. Of course, this was all he could really do to protect himself from the attacks right now. When the Renamon backed off, he figured he'd gained some ground, only no it was jumping into the air to unleash a serious attack.

Holding the axe in front of his body, he tried to protect himself as much as possible from the leaves. The axe could only cover so much though, as the energy leaves pelted his body. Little explosions piling up and knocking him backwards, stumbling a bit from the attack. He was starting to feel the wear on his body from this battle, it probably wouldn't be holding up too much longer.

Shaking the pain off, he looked up at the Renamon and fired off a Baby Flame at her. If she was in the air, he might have a better chance at hitting her, but it was impossible to tell really. He just hoped that he would do something well enough to earn Maverick's respect. Little did he know though, that Maverick already approved of the digimon, he just didn't think there was a name strong enough.

It was harder to move while hanging in the air like that, and though she tried to twist out of the way of the flame that was sent at her, it still ended up practically setting her tail on fire. She yelped rather indignantly, landing and trying to snuff out her tail before the rest of her caught. Thankfully it didn’t burn all the way through her thick fur, but she certainly wasn’t too appreciative towards fire techniques anymore.

The Agumon was looking a little more worn down now, however. “Fox Leaf Arrowhead!” Another round of leaves materialized, flying towards the little dragon. With that axe in hand, she didn’t want to get too close, lest she be hit with it.

He'd managed to catch the Renamon a bit more this time, so with some time, he would likely be able to manage a direct hit. Well, that would happen, if the Renamon hadn't immediately fired off another round of the leaf arrowheads. He tried to block as much as he could again, but with his lack of staying power, he was slowly pushed back by the explosions.

Falling to a knee, his breathing became labored, and it was clear that he couldn't take much more. Supporting himself on the axe a bit, Maverick could see that he was worn out. It would be best to let it end there, he'd rather not let his partner get down to zero health. With a few moments of typing, he setup the whisper for the other person.

Hey, I'm gonna throw in the towel to keep my digimon from getting too hurt, alright?

Without waiting too long for an answer, he waved his hand and motioned that he was giving up the fight. "Alright, I give. Come on back, Pyre," he shouted. The Agumon raised an eyebrow wondering for about a second who pyre was until it clicked. Nodding to maverick, he bowed to the Renamon. "It was a good battle," with that, he walked over to where Maverick was.

Motioning to the other, "Meet us outside of the arena, alright?" Then turning to head out of his side. The Agumon looked up at Maverick, "I apologize for losing, I didn't mean to shame you." The human looked down at the digimon confused, "Shame? There is no shame in losing, one grows stronger after a loss than they do after a victory."

"Besides, you showed your power, Pyre," the man grinned widely putting his hands behind his head. He stood in the hall waiting for the other human to show up, so he could talk with him.
