LUCENT LEEtwenty | female | staff, programmer | ?? | andi curtiss The Character"You can count on me, baaahss." Andi uttered the word 'boss' with a new obnoxious variation every time she said it and frankly it was a terrible surprise she even got a job with that kind of behavior. Or at least it was a surprise to many of her co-workers, new and old. As her new boss was walking off Andi rushed to add, "I'll try not to trip any breakers today I swear!"
Some of the others working in nearby cubicles looked to the shouting offender with contempt while others pretended not to even hear her. A slight scoffing sound came from Andi's 'neighbor' and the woman looked over sharply. "S'up?" Andi addressed the girl working in the cubicle next to hers with a slight growl in her voice, in warning perhaps. When the girl just rolled her eyes and began to work again, Andi stood up and nearly slammed her hand down on the desk. "Didn't do a single thing t'you, you know that? I'm taking my break now."
Giving a peace sign to anyone annoying enough to be looking her way, Andi left her cubicle and stalked off to the break room. This job made her stir crazy, but it was the first place here in Japan that offered her any kind of security. Damn did she wish there was something else opening it's arms to her. As she burst into the break room she realized she startled the hell out of a young employee. Maybe he was just an intern.
"Hey, sorry about that. Didn't mean to freak you out. Work, eh?" She nodded a bit and shuffled over to the vending machine. As confident as she may have come across all the time, Andi was terrified. This place was foreign and everyone could tell she was an outsider. If her American accent didn't give her away then the times she couldn't think of the proper word in a pinch sure as hell would. The young woman bit her lip as she fed the machine a few bucks and punched in some random keys without thinking about it.
This wasn't what Andi had come here for- this shitty entry level programming job. An audible sigh escaped her lips as she let her head hit the machine in front of her. Clunk.
"Uh... is something wrong?"
Andi tried not to get too frustrated with herself for showing weakness when there was someone around, then had to back that up with calming herself at her inability to understand certain words if people spoke them too fast. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that. What did you say?" The young woman asked as she swiped her drink from the machine and turned back towards the young man.
His brow was furrowed a little, but he repeated, "Is something the matter?"
"Oh just fed up with dead end jobs, you know?" Andi got an amused look on her face then settled in at the table the young man was sitting at. "Nah, I'm fine. I just figured I'd be working on something more exciting. It's what I traveled for."
"Like... working on games, maybe?"
Curious. Her hand traced the top of her canned drink and she smiled wryly. "Actually yes, something like that. I've been quite interested in Japanese games for a long time. Why do you ask, kid?"
The young man's hand slipped into his coat and he slipped a business card onto the table. "They need some good programmers. Prove yourself and it'll be the most exciting work you've ever done before." With a slight smile he stood and left the break room, somewhat swiftly.
"Now that was shady..." Andi muttered gently as she eyed the business card.
