When the staff member had said, "Jump," he did it without thinking -- why? It was not a slight height, nor was it that safe (or was it? They were in a game, dammit -- he had to remember). A cloud appeared: Bakumon? When the impact came, Mai crumpled up, feeling the pain shoot up from the bottom of his feet and his bare palms that crashed into the snow: still, it wasn't as bad as he thought it would've been. On all fours, he lifted up his head to see the boy glancing at the inn. His words brought him relief.
Shit. He sucked in relieved breaths of air. The yellow bird Digimon already managed to reach the bottom, prancing around and waving his sword at the SnowAgumon that still roamed the cliffs above. It did not follow. When Mai finally got up, he realized that the boy had already left -- rubbing his hands, he ran into the inn for warmth.
It was a picture of comfort, a total contrast of the outside. Wooden accents and a blazing fire-place -- Mai had never felt better. All the pains and the persistent ache in his shoulder seemed to fade away as he got nearer to the flames. Hyokomon followed after and squawked, "So how did I do, Mai?" It wasn't a happy question; the bird looked again at the sword he wielded. Mai gave a small smile: "Good."
He still couldn't forget how the SnowAgumon looked when it was being destroyed. And strangely, he didn't feel guilty about it. It had to happen, didn't it? This was how this world worked: the strong lived, the weak die.
Mai saw the staff member, and his handle floated near his face. Löwe. Then at the sight of his face, in the glow of the room, Mai gasped and said, "Oh, haven't I met you before?" He scratched the back of his head, trying to remember -- but his name wasn't Löwe, it was Ronin. Then he understood. Staff probably used the same avatar for easy identification -- there could be many reasons for it. He scratched his head awkwardly.
"Um, oops, sorry about that. And well, thank you back there. If you hadn't guided us, we probably..." Mai begun, and Hyokomon piped in, "would've died!" Mai smiled and nodded at the bird Digimon. Gingerly, he took a seat in the chair opposite Löwe. words: 000 tags: name notes: none.
