Mai had wanted to be alone for a while; although Hyokomon was with him, Mai didn’t mind that. The yellow chicken was prancing around as usual, pulling out his sword as he trained his techniques. He always wanted to become a proper battling Digimon; and although Mai wanted to help him out, he did not have any experience with swords so he could not endow any tips. He did buy Hyokomon a technique though; and Hyokomon had been so grateful to him. “Karatakewari!” the Digimon yelled and his sword landed on the soil, flinging pieces of it all over the place. Mai watched the Whamon. Their huge beautiful bodies shone in the setting sun, their enormous tails propelling them through the sea. Opening up his menu, Mai looked at his friends list – no one was online. Furthermore, Mai had been thinking; did all these people he meet consider him as a friend? He was always afraid he felt more for that person, than they did him. It always sucked to be the one who kept pushing for a friendship. His thoughts wandered to his real life; and he was only pulled back when Hyokomon tapped him on the shoulder. “Wanna see me show you my perfected technique?” the Digimon asked. Mai nodded. Hyokomon prepared himself, planting his feet on the ground firmly and raised his sword. He leapt and swung the sword downwards, putting all his weight into that one strike. The wind followed it, creating a high-pitched swift sound – and as the sword collided with the ground, instead of the many clusters of soil that came off, Hyokomon had made a clean cut right in the ground. Mai applauded and marvelled at Hyokomon’s skill. The bird wiped his own forehead and gave a bow. He was proud of what he had managed to accomplish. made by kiwii at btn & ote!

Maverick and Pyre out and about, ready to cause trouble or fun, depending on who you asked, wherever they went. It seemed that the wind would take them to the Plug Cape this time, which wasn't a bad idea. Maybe he could go swimming once more, that would be kind of fun really, and now he would make sure to do it at least once. Racing through the area, it was a different story now, with Pyre keeping pace. Ever since he had those battles, he had been more pumped about training to become even stronger.

"What's gotten you so pumped lately, Pyre?" he asked, the dino digimon looking towards him. Turning his head to where he could watch where he was going again, he answered, "The last battles showed me I'm not that strong in comparison to the others." Maverick was about to say something, but Pyre cut him off, continuing with what he was saying. "However, I know your goals, and it's my job to help you get to them. Therefore, I am planning to become the strongest Digimon, suited for the Tamer King," he spoke, a slight grin on both the human and digimon's faces as they continued to run across the sand.

Nearing the cape, Maverick made out some movement in the distance, not quite sure what it was, he moved to go closer. The Agumon following closely behind him, and as they got closer they saw another person and his digimon. "Yo there," Maverick called out, waving widely towards the person, as he slowed down upon nearing them. "What brings you two out this way?" he asked, though he was trying to catch his breath a little, it was a long run from Asuka City. Pyre was panting a bit more, much less used to the running around than Maverick was.

He scratched his head, rechecked his buddy list and no, there wasn’t anyone he knew that was online. He looked at Hyokomon who only whispered, “Go make a new friend, Mai.” This immediately made him tense. He heard the voice called out once again: “What brings you two out this way?” – and the person came panting. Mai cocked his head to the side, looking at the strange strange boy who seemed to have been running for ages; and somehow, he felt at ease. The awkwardness was certainly still there, but with someone who seemed so casual and natural, it really seemed very miniscule to the others he had met so far. “Well, um, we’ve been training out here; though most of it was done by Hyokomon. I don’t really know what my role is, apart from helping out by giving ideas during battles,” Mai started. The boy – his handle was Maverick and his partner was a Agumon – seemed like one who had been battling for quite some time. “Do you battle a lot? I would love to get some tips,” he said, pausing tentatively before saying, “Or maybe even practice a little.” Hyokomon’s eyes widened: did Mai just challenge someone? Hyokomon hadn’t gotten into a player fight so far; and his little heart started to sing as he felt excited about it – but he wouldn’t do it if the opponent refused. Mai looked down, a little embarrassed about what he had just said, and said quietly, “Anyway, my name is Mai; it’s nice to meet you.” With a small smile, Mai felt rather proud of himself – did he just manage to speak to a stranger without problems? made by kiwii at btn & ote!

With the answer to the question of what they were doing out here, looking to the Digimon. "Oh, yeah? What were you practicing out here, little guy?" he asked, a smile across his features, setting naturally. It would be pretty interesting to know what all this little guy had practiced out here on his own. Plus, it looked something like a baby samurai of sorts, that was definitely an interesting look.

When the other mentioned he wasn't sure what else he could do for the Digimon, "Easy enough, trust'em. You can give them advice, you can train with them, but ultimately, you gotta trust'em to know what they're doing. That's how I do it with Pyre here, and he hasn't let me down." The Agumon glanced towards Maverick, wondering what he meant by that, especially since he had lost to that Renamon. That was their first fight as well, how could Maverick feel proud? The one after that, he felt he could do much better, why was Maverick happy? With the next question Maverick thought to himself a bit, "Not really a lot, but I did have a few battles recently, figured I'd done enough of just exploring the world. Time to start playing the game and aiming for the top goal." He grinned, "I could give you some pointers, or we could have a bit of a practice, if you'd like. Whichever you would prefer."

Turning to the Agumon, he extended his fist, "You up for it, Pyre?" The Agumon said nothing, just nodded and bumped fists with Maverick. That was all he needed to do, and he was ready for a little spar, if that's what both parties wanted. At the introduction, Maverick could have smacked himself, he had been rude about that. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Maverick and this lil' guy is Pyre," he introduced his Agumon, who nodded his greeting to the others.

Did Hyokomon really like him, or did he have no choice? He looked at Maverick and his Agumon -- didn't he wonder the same? It wasn't a bond if it is programmed to happen. Trust shouldn't be something that could be artificially made. "Pointers would be good. Then maybe a practice battle? Would that be okay with you?" Mai said, looking at Maverick. They just met and now they were talking like it was normal. No stuttering, no looking away, no awkwardness... Well, at least not as much. Mai's palms were sweating so he rubbed it against his shirt; Hyokomon pulled out his sword and swung it around a few times, wondering how it was like to hit something that wasn't just soil. "I was practicing my technique," the chick said, pointing to the cut that he made in the ground earlier. It was a clean deep cut; little soil erupted from it and Mai too was proud of this accomplishment. How would it be like to battle? Mai wondered if battling was what tested their trust between each other. He felt ready, that it was time to try a little scuffle. Maverick had a different train of thought when it came to the digimon of this world. Even the npcs, were not just your average programs to him, they evolved in different ways. That was how he saw it, if they were just programmed, then someone took a ridiculously long time to program the personalities of every digimon. Maybe he was the weird one of the game, but then again, he liked being weird. Stretching his limbs out, it always felt relieving to loosen up like this, especially after a run.

"That would be good with me," he responded, to the question about the plans for what to do. Though, he had to think and give the best advice that he could.

"Hm, pointers? Well, the most important thing is, don't be bothered by losing. There's an old saying, 'there is one lesson in victory, but a thousand in defeat.' I'd like to say this holds true," it was the first really point he could give to anyone really. It would make the difference for a lot of scenarios for them, and would separate the weak from the strong. "The next thing is, work as a team, you have an outside perspective, use that to your advantage," he didn't want to expand too much. If he influenced too much, he doubted this guy would adapt to his own style. So, it was best to be vague, and let him learn how to utilize that to his own advantage.

"If you'd like a practice battle, Pyre and I would be happy to oblige," he offered, the dino next to him, nodding his approval of his partner's words. Looking at the spot where the technique hit, an impressed whistle coming from the man. "That's a pretty interesting technique you've got there," it would be interesting and fun to see how Pyre would fair against the little chickadee.

Mai stood there, his eyes misted over; he remembered losing and in the real world, he had lost a lot. It hurt. He never liked losing, but he couldn't help but lose. Here, he hoped to be different -- here, he wanted to win. He hadn't battled with Hyokomon before and experience with that would be helpful. He had heard of rogue players who attacked lone tamers viciously without mercy. Some even hunted down new players in Asuka City. Although dying was different here, Mai shuddered at the thought of it.

Mai listened to the advice, trying to absorb it. Outside perspective, huh? He geared himself up, puffing up his chest and taking a deep breath in. This was about to be his first battle. The Agumon seemed powerful, with long claws and sharp teeth. It was clearly built for battle. Hyokomon on the other hand did not look like much of a threat; the chicken stumbled over his feet occasionally, bright yellow feathers peppering the air when he flaps his wings. What made him look a little more dangerous was the thin sword he held in his wings.

Mai's partner pulled out the sword, holding it upright in front of him. The bird stared into the Agumon's green eyes. Quietly, he said, "Your move," and stayed there impassive. Mai watched silently. Was this how battle started? Even though not involved, Mai stood as if ready to jump, sensitive to anything that could happen.

Maverick was watching Mai carefully, he could tell he was getting himself set to be serious about this. That was all, but it was enough, if he was going to take the fight seriously than that was good. They would take it seriously as well, and would give it all they had. After the battle they would have no hard feelings win or lose, that's how Maverick and Pyre did things. Plus, it meant they wouldn't have any regrets after the fight either, which was something that was important for the man.

When the bird stepped forward with its sword in hand, Pyre looked back to Maverick who nodded. "Battle hawk," he summoned his axe, holding it in one hand as he walked to meet the Hyokomon. Standing about ten paces from his opponent, and holding it in front of him. Of course, this was just to level the playing field in terms of weapon, he didn't feel like going hand to hand against a sword.

When it gave him the 'first move', Pyre shifted his stance and rushed forward at the Hyokomon. A swift, short swing from the axe being brought down vertically at the bird. Pyre would start off with simple things before making complicated battle plans.
