HOMMEtwenty-six | male | player | unknown | lucien margaux The CharacterHe doesn't speak the language - or any language that really matters. He speaks English and French, but in the real world, he's surrounded by Cantonese. He tries to speak that, but the book he was given was mandarin, and after a few months of trying, he gave up, aware he wasn't supposed to know it. He knows a few words at best - how to ask for food, or indicate something is wrong. Little else. The man keeping him there informs him he doesn't need anything else, and he supposes that he's right.
He's been there two years already, and he's read through every book he has. He was supposed to go home six months ago, but his father wouldn't take him. Why would he? He became a chess piece in a high stakes game, and now he's been compromised. He bit the hand that fed him, and now he's been abandoned.
He knows his caretaker pities him. How could he not? He's alone and abandoned. Sometimes he considers breaking out, going to the police, but he's sure it's pointless. When you're dealing with crime families, the police have almost always been paid to look the other way, and there's no way of knowing if he's dealing with someone who will turn him in.
Instead he lets himself enjoy it. There's no pressure, nothing to worry about. Nothing depends on him, and he's become such a non-entity in the game that he doesn't have to worry for his life. The fact that he's not a threat anymore gives him more freedom as well - his caretaker brings him books and games, things to occupy himself. The pod, when he gets it, is a reward for his good behavior. He hasn't misbehaved in more than a year, and so he's allowed to play. The server is a foreign one, and he doesn't speak the language, having to struggle through menu options. Most of it is intuitive enough that even someone who speaks Japanese can play. The rest is painful, learning through trial and error. He's not sure the point of the game, but for him, it's enough that there are people around. He's been alone a very long time, with only his one visitor, and even if he doesn't speak a word, it's still relief from the monotony. The RPername reit face claim tiger and bunny, barnaby brooks jr.
