Needle21 | female | player | friendship/reliability | haruka hidaka The CharacterIt wasn't unusual to talk about the thrill of the hunt and the fight but there was another thrill to be had from the planning. The anticipation of the battle, planning possible routes of approach and retreat. Rarely was this kind of planning done, and so it made it all the more sweeter when it was begun. For her the thrill of planning wasn't as great as the challenge of fighting and hunting but the others enjoyed it so she would reign in her impatience so she didn't spoil the game too soon and wait.
They were good about sprinkling in plenty of impromptu raids on other targets while plans were made. It made the waiting more bearable, and it let her stretch her wings with the others. She could stretch her legs anytime going it solo, whether AI or other Players were the targets. It felt like the world was getting too small though, the MMOs they frequented had so many repeat victims and while it was amusing at first they seem to didn't learn any new tricks and it was the same-old, same-old and dull after a while. Maybe that was why nerves in the gang had been so frayed and people arguing and nagging and bringing the fighting to a verbal range in the group. They needed fights.
Fights, period. Not duels of honor or battles between groups that were set-up before hand, though occasionally they'd accept both, just fights in general. It didn't matter to them whether their target was weaker or stronger (well most of them were more careful about fighting stronger targets than she...) or whether they were interrupting someone else's fight. There was hp to be destroyed, laughs to be had, and sometimes, loot to be had. But loot had always been secondary but a good haul was a good way of cooling tempers for a while but it was only a band aid and she knew it.
That's why, looking back, she realized she should not have been surprised by the fight. She'd gotten in an argument with another member and they'd fought every day like cats and dogs though they at least pretended to be just snarking at first but it grew so bad they couldn't be online at the same time without raging and calling down the heavens or, worse yet, ignoring the other completely during an operation. Neither side was a clear winner so the fight couldn't be ended that way but they weren't backing down and they wouldn't quit until finally others grew annoyed and shouted them down and told them to shut up or sit down. Well that didn't sit well with her when she was clearly (okay maybe it was a little murky) in the right and decided to pick a third option: leaving (fleeing).
So she left the gang with a bitter taste in her mouth that her pride (or maybe stubbornness) wouldn't let her swallow down and began looking for a new hunting ground. She didn't say anything to the guys she just didn't log in to their current place, or any of the messenger they could contact her on. She needed new landscape anyways, she reasoned. Maybe it would someplace just to kill the time. She wasn't so sure about having an AI 'partner' that would be doing the fighting instead but maybe it'd be a good change for her.
At least there was a whole new population of prey for her to feast on. She just had to get past the point where she had no idea how the game worked and maybe find some new allies (friends, she was lonely) and train and learn the ropes again.
Maybe, a tiny part of her hoped, maybe her gang would follow and she could claim the lofty title of 'first' and they'd accept her and she'd have a group to run with again. Her group that'd (maybe) have her back and would hunt (play) with her and they could (play) snarl and snark and it'd be just like old times with a new hunting ground. She didn't (not) care if they never showed up though. She could run it solo.
