His thoughts...
Yue lied slumped over his desk. His dorm room was unusually quiet, only because it was a holiday break where most of the other people living in the dorm had opted to spend the holidays with their families. Yue himself would've flown home, but he figured it was probably for the best that he didn't. It was his first year in college, and his parents had very high hopes for their son. Since the day hew as being carried around in his mother's stomach, his family had planned out his life for him. He was to go to all the best schools, get straight A's and graduate as valedictorian at a prestigious high school, which in turn would open the flood gates as schools trampled over each other trying to get him to enroll at their respective universities.
With his life completely planned out before him, Yue did nothing more than live the life of a mechanical robot. Everyday he was tasked with going to school, out shining the other kids, being active in school functions and to completely kill off all chances of social interaction, his parents forced him to study while he was at home. He had no room for error nor any room to breath as his life continued to move forward bit by bit like some horrible assembly-line, where dreams and social life was crushed and put back together only to assume the shape of some grotesque shell of a life. How could his parents blame him for suddenly erupting like he did?
It was his senior year in high school, and Yue had stayed after hours to sit quietly in a secluded stairwell. Suffice it to say this was the only way he could have a moment of peace to himself without his parents leaping down his throat and forcing him to continue studying. He was staying true to his parent's wish and on track to graduate as valedictorian, but all of this was blown away by the moments to come.
It was getting late and he figured he couldn't hide out in this stairwell forever, so he was getting ready to leave when he heard a woman shriek echo through the hallways. The cry prompted Yue to immediately bolt towards whoever was emitting such a sound, and as his feet stampeded down the hallway he soon came face to face with his life changing moment. As he turned right at the corner of the hallway he came face to face with the school's star baseball player, Hiro, and some girl who Yue assumed was his girlfriend. Upon seeing Yue, the girl frantically started crying out and pleading for him to help her, but Yue just stood there. Hiro, who noticed that Yue was just standing their like some statue, grinned and told the girl that no one was going to help her. After realizing Yue wasn't going to do anything, Hiro went on to ridicule and even insult him. What happened next was history...
Life for Yue wasn't the same anymore. He had stood up against Hiro, and what worse, was suspended from school because of the actions he took to stop Hiro. The quarterback was admitted into the hospital with a shattered wrist. Many tales and rumors were sparked because of this incident and each one was more outrageous than the last, but the true story was kept between Yue and the girl he rescued. To her, he was a hero, but for Yue's parents it was nothing more than a black mark on his seemingly perfect reputation. With his first courageous steps, Yue seemed to walk into a new world as everything was different for him. His way of thought, his actions in school, everything was different. He was still doing well in school grade wise, but he had learned to...live a little.
With his new found courage, he went against his parent's wishes and opted to go to a different university. Instead of aiming for Tokyo University like all teenagers his age. He opted to find a school away from the big city. He found what he was looking for in the prefecture of Gunma, Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences. It might not have been his parent's ideal choice, but then again, when was it ever their choice?
As the final memories faded away, Yue opened his eyes and glanced around his room. His body was weary from all the studying he had been doing so far, and it was starting to take its toll on him. His head felt heavier than a ton of bricks, which didn't help to cope with the migraine which seemed to only fester stronger and stronger as he rested his head. With a heavy sigh, he lifted his head from the desk and made his way over to the bathroom in his small dorm room. He turned the water on and pulled the mirror/cabinet open to reach inside for some Tylenol. He popped a couple of the pills into his mouth and swallowed them before splashing some of the cold water onto his face.
He took a towel and dried off his face before he returned back to his desk and sat there staring aimlessly down at one of his textbooks. He knew he should continue studying a bit more, but honestly, he was feeling pretty empty right now in his head. His eyes wandered away from the texts from the textbook and settled on a magazine, that had been buried under some school work. Yue reached out and fished it out from under all that paper and pulled it out. His eyes widened a bit as he remembered why he had picked up this magazine in the first place. A new break through in gaming technology was just announced and it sort of sparked an interest in Yue. As he flipped through the magazine and read the articles about the system, his fascination only continued to grow.
Hardly able to contain himself anymore, Yue got up from his desk. He quickly picked up his wallet and keys before heading out of the apartment. A grin trailed across his face as he spoke to himself, "Might as well treat myself to a little fun this holiday. Who knows what wonders await me within that virtual realm..."
