RAIKOtwenty | female | player | unsure | madoko kiyoka The Characterthe personality- flexible, accepting, open minded
Being an individual of mixed heritages, Raiko isn't really one to judge a person based on how they look or what they believe. A troubled school experience has made it so the only thing that she'll judge someone on is their personality. She enjoys the occasional company of other technically inclined people, but she's been known to turn her attention to anything that her companion may like, because she likes to learn more than any interest in what the other person is saying.
- nothing can be trusted
Her mother's mistakes, her father's whole life, her stepfather's strict and harsh treatment of her - Raiko is a firm believer that nothing is set in stone. She's rather anti-romantic, as her mother has told her her whole life that love is a fairy tale made for children so that they don't lose faith in the world. Of course, she lost that the first time she was shoved into the irrigation canal outside their apartment complex for being a "Yanki."
- systematic, detail oriented
A natural at all things technology, Raiko sees things in a very black and white perspective. She's never understood the concept of 'creative liscence,' which is probably why she came close to failing a few composition classes in high school. She's got what has been diagnosed as a medium-range case of OCD, though she doesn't think it's so medium, as it doesn't disturb her daily life more than once a week.
- low self worth, modest
Children are cruel. Particularly, they rail against things that are different. The wholly-Japanese students in her school called her out on her mixed heritage constantly, blaming her inability to hold a real conversation on her being a 'snooty American.' Raiko doesn't think much of herself at all because of this.
- unforgiving
Once you hurt her feelings, Raiko is very firm in her inability to forgive or forget, particularly if you're a stranger. If you're someone she's known for a while, she's more prone to eventually working back up to a friendship, but if you're a stranger and have somehow upset her, you're just a face she's looking forward to never having to see again.
- honest, blunt
She will not lie. It's that simple - her mother's lies ruined a good seven years of her life, and continue to burden her. Her father's lies and twisted frame of reality got him killed. Her stepfather was strict to the point of cruelty, but that was one thing about him that she appreciated - he was always honest. She doesn't sugar-coat things, not in the slightest.
- pessimistic, rejects change
Raiko isn't the most friendly of people, and she's certainly not the happiest. She focuses very intently on the dark clound rather than the silver lining, and she's verbal about it. She hates it when things change - probably the reason she's twenty years old and still lives with her mother.
- caring, devoted, sensitive, responsive
When you do get close enough for her to consider you a friend, Raiko is one of the best you can find. Anything you ask of her, she'll do her damndest to get it done, no matter her own discomfort. She's an exceptional listener, and a very emotionally responsive person, once she actually cares.
the skill sets- bilingual
Due to her mixed background of American and Japanese, Raiko is fluent in both English and Japanese.
- cannot exercise authority
Seeing as how she locks up when she's put in positions of power, authority is most certainly not one of her strong suits. She hates being in charge of anyone but herself and, well, she's hoping, anyway, her Digimon.
- lack of public speaking, delegation or leadership
She would honestly rather not have anything to do with making decisions, probably something stemming from the fact that her mother made a tonne of bad ones. As she's more attuned for computers and electronics, when it comes to large groups of people and being the center of attention, unless she's scripted and can read off of the paper, she's just about useless. She'd much rather be doing something alone.
- listening, motivating, negotiating, solving problems, organization, planning
These are definatley her strong suits. Her mind is made for analytics, so she's excellent at problem-solving, organization, and planning naturally. She's good at listening mostly because she's not too big on talking - her life has also left her with a strong sense of empathy, if she cares enough. She's a half-decent motivator, in the right situations... When something is known to need to be done, she's all about it being done. However, when she's the one in need of motivation, that can be a difficult task.
the history The story of the player known as Raiko is one of split-second, poorly executed decisions. Her mother is Japanese, and her father, American. One of the few Japanese University students that aspired to visit the United States for a year abroad, Kiyoka's mother soon found herself swirled into the mixing-pot of American 'culture.' She found herself an American boyfriend, discovered the power and pull of alcohol, tried out a few things that she'd never even considered doing before. Needless to say, she didn't go back to Japan when she was supposed to. On the official records, they say she went back; however, she remained in the United States illegally, getting married to that boyfriend so that she didn't have to go back to her overly strict family in Japan. She was pregnant within the year, and the parties ended with the wailing of her twins.
That didn't stop her husband from partying through the rest of his college stint, as he dropped out when he was a junior. She, thankfully, had graduated and was able to get a computer-based job as a programmer. They direct deposited her paychecks, and no one ever asked questions, because it was all technically under the table. Until her money started disappearing, that was - her loving, wonderful, immature husband had discovered heroin. Cue emotional trauma for the twins - Kiyoka and her brother spent the first six years of their life in that situation, because their mother had no way out. Her greatest aspiration at that point was to escape back to Japan, but her fears (quite founded fears) were that she would be forced to leave her children behind. They didn't have to worry about it for too much longer - two months after the twins turned six, their father died of an overdose and the trio was deported back to Japan.
Even for a six year old, that was quite a culture shock. She had been social enough in the States, but in Japan, she clammed up some. Her brother was the opposite, becoming a social butterfly from the youngest possible age. Their mother got remarried to a man nearly thirty years older than her, which resulted in some clashing once more. He was overly demanding and obsessive over every aspect of their lives. This continued until the twins were fourteen, when their stepfather died of natural causes. Once more left with just their mother, life continued.
Kiyoka had decent grades in all aspects of schooling, and easily got into the online portion of Tokyo University after she graduated high school. She, very much like her mother, loves computers, and her dream is to one day be a staff member for MAGAMI. She is currently an online student, double majoring in programming and psychology, living with her mother. She's saved up money since the private pods were announced, and finally, about prior to her first signing on, managed to order one. She works part-time at the reception desk of the hotel next to her apartment building, though she's hoping that will come to an end soon.
